Manmohan + Pranab = Results !!
Finally the diplomatic measures by our government are showing up results. The news has now come that US has come more clearly than ever before and has said that Pak should hand over Lakhvi to India. They have validated all evidences and they are not acting illogically to protect their old ties with Pak. We need to applaud the way government has acted with resilience, yet continuously building up the pressure on Pakistan. The congress team including Sonia, Manmohan, Pranab and Rahul (perhaps) has made very good strategic moves while handling the crisis situation post the terror attacks. Despite tremendous pressure for acting fast and effective after the attack to take control of the security crisis situation in the country, the government refused to succumb. It held the pressure for some time, kept patient and took measures in a well thought out manner. Throughout the course, there was no loss of focus on the real issue, and this is very well appreciated by all, including the media. They have saved us from war, which was least likely to solve the terrorism problem.
In my opinion, government quickly realized that the Mumbai terror attack was not simply an attack on India, but instead, was carried out with Pak military's support on the civilian government in Pak. The war hysteria was an apt time for Pak military to overthrow the civilian government in Pak and take control of the country. Having understood the intentions of the Pak military, Indian government avoided being caught in the trick. India insisted on Pak acting on the terrorists and avoids boasting about its military’s efficiency. It is though least expected that Pak hands over Lakhvi to India, yet directionally this is good. In case of a failure to do so, America may further escalate its efforts by stopping the financial support it has been providing Pak, in order to retain its base in Pak to act on Afganistan based Talibanis. Although they know Pak will not hand the terrorist over to India, but issuing a warning is the first step to any thing further.
In the mean time, J and K elections were a great achievement, although marked by less than expected coverage in the top news websites abroad (Time magazine, Newsweek, New York Times, absolute zero coverage in Pak TV) , but was covered in CNN, Reuters, Newsblaze and entire Indian media. Sonia Gandhi's happiness over the huge turnout during the poll and nice results in favor of NC can be well understood.
Hopefully the story will keep getting better for India.
