Election fever: Pappus all over

It was a huge hue and cry all around to provoke people to go and vote. Perhaps the effort helped by few percents. It was nearly “business as usual” for almost 50% of the mass. The turnout in the election was quite typical. The voting is a marked occasion for the people in rural areas while something trivial for the urbanites. Ironically, rural areas outperformed Mumbai. There were some remarks on the low turnout in Mumbai post the terror attack, as if poor mumbaikars had some decent choice. What big deal would it have been to choose between couple of ludicrous candidates? As if congress did show some pleasurable improvements in the life compared with Shivsena (apart from don problem in which I suppose SS performed much better). As far as I am aware, Mumbai is in a dearth need of improvement. It looks uncomfortable, roads remain far from useful for daily transfers, locals remain sweaty, shores pathetic and living space remain less than sufficient. And security situation - we better avoid mentioning also.
Maharashtra apart from Mumbai, which comprise of only marathi manus ( :P), are doing worrisome and the government is least bothered. So people thought better shut up at homes and watch TV. Other states like UP, Bihar saw very low turnouts due to fairly similar reasons. Governments have already forgotten about 800 of 1billion (at best 0.00008 %) people who died in various terror attacks in Mumbai / Delhi / Jaipur / Assam. They rather worry about Quattrocchi, considering the highly unlikely situation in which UPA loses, in which case, Quattrocchi might face tiny bits of problems in the winter of his life. Obviously the numbers were too big on Quattrocchi’s side.
Ideally, people should be quite upset about where to go when they were reminded of congress's track record. Modi has not managed to push Advani off the seat, when the latter is poised to destroy the BJP’s chances in this election. Some other leaders in BJP (for example Rajnath Singh etal, who seem strangled and irritated ever since Modi has emerged) have put up an ugly show so far and still others who include the decent ones in the party are keeping mum.
Sometimes, I think that intentions of BJP leaders seem to be better than congressmen. But the bottleneck seems to be their capability. When will BJP touch the right vein and when will it learn to bring public focus on it efficiently on right occasions. They fail to see that rural votes form a majority and they need to appeal them more than urban people. Congress often tries to touch upon issues involving these masses and hence, is able to retain power despite failing on more obscure issues like the deficit. Corruption was totally out of picture during this election. Even BJP did not utter a word about it, as if the parties have come to some consensus to keep quite on it. They said, alright keep having black money, but keep it in Indian banks – at least BJP got that far, though.
CBI has been catching up a lot of heat as it has started working on more practical rules than those laid out in our fat old constitution. How bizarre it was to see CBI doing that so brazenly, it disturbed so many daydreamers. CBI is a working body, perhaps doing its job well, but the last decisions in the agency are turned down more than often by its bosses. I cannot imagine the frustration of the CBI insiders.
Anyway, world is not all good goody. But with such options, please do not accuse pappus entirely for their misdeed of not voting.
