Common Wealth Games Critical Question: Was Indian Government Sleeping?
I will start by saying that we will not let this story go waste. I hope that people of India blog, comment on news websites, discuss about it critically and remember not to forget this fiasco. I feel ashamed of having elected Congress as a government at Center and state, who has shown utter negligence in performing any thing that was expected. I wonder how shameless Mr Monmohan Singh could get, jumping in the last day to finally correct the situation. How foolish do we have to be that we will believe that everything is going to be OK the moment he is comes in. Obviously within the remaining couple of days, the bridges are going to get rebuilt, the work in progress will suddenly get completed and the hotels are going to get all cleaned up.
Did he not expect Madam Sheila Dikshit to give yet another appalling statement to improve the situation? Situation is as helpless as it has been in the past in Delhi. She is the one who thought Kiran Bedi wasn't good enough for the capital and got Yudhvir Singh Dandwal instead. Everybody knows the story that followed. She was suppose to pull off CWG, but she wasn't motivated enough. She kept haggling with the NGOs and draining money along with her friend, Mr Kalamadi. I can't believe that there was a pinch in the story that Mr Manmohan or Miss Dixit weren't aware of. They knew what percent of money was going into the pockets and what remaining percent was being used for games preparation. But they did nothing until the whole world was laughing at us.

Finally, some funny statements:
The hue and cry over the state of Delhi’s Commonwealth Games athletes’ village reflect cultural differences in personal hygiene between Indians and Westerners, the Games’ official spokesman has said. He was referring to the objections of teams from Britain, New Zealand, Australia, and the Commonwealth Games Federation itself, that their accommodation in Delhi is “filthy”.

"I do not think we should overestimate the importance of such incidents," said Reddy, who is also head of the Group of Ministers looking after all aspects of the CWG preparations.

"I would like you tell very categorically that these minor glitches and hitches do come around... but to make out as the whole thing is collapsing -- I am sorry, we do not agree with that," Dikshit told reporters.

(the whole thing is not collapsing, would you believe it? that surprises her but then she thanks god in her mind.)
And of course, lot more people are glad to take this opportunity to discuss and laugh at us and what's more, players are backing out.
The situation will continue to be as such (or marginally better, at least, damage control will be enforced in the media) for some more days and then every visitor/player who has come here by mistake, will go back to their better worlds. Only we shall remain here to look at these same faces in the same positions, posting money to their swiss accounts. This is the sorry state of country, a leadership crisis.
The worst part of the story is that throwing out congress from the government will bring only yet another classic. I cannot imagine a single figure in Indian political parties who will be any different. In a way, opposition parties are hugely responsible for this utter failure of the government. Had they been more aggressive and competitive, the situation would have been much better. World knows how efficiencies are hit in absence of a talented competition.
Corporate and private sectors are the only hope of this country and this is a fact that has become evident time and again. People who have won Nobel prize have said so and those who have not won any award also think so. Frankly, it is not hard to guess, in fact, it is fairly obvious. But on the whole, no matter how hard we try, government will be filled with filthy people from 40 years old politics, who have no motivation except money, who will soon die leaving all their money for their brats bar expenses and who are doing their best to pull down the rest of us.
Miss Dikshit, it is high time you realize that building flyovers is not the only thing in this world. Mr Singh, it is high time to wake up. Mr Kalamadi, the life is too short to make all this worth. Can you guys even try, at least 'try', to be better people and feel sorry to have caused the whole nation such a shame. Please show some sign of regret!
